Invitation to join our EMMA panel discussion during the 7th Forum EUSBSR

EMMA cordially invites you to our panel discussion “How to embed inland navigation in transport chains?" on 8th Nov. 2016 at the 7th Forum EUSBSR.

Tuesday, 8th of November 2016 | 10:40h - 11:50h

Venue: The Brewery Conference Centre | Torkel Knutssonsgatan 2 11825 Stockholm | Sweden

The recent appointment of the EMMA project as flagship for the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region reflects the importance the European Commission attaches to the further development of inland navigation in this region.

The EMMA panel discussion is embedded in the overall programme of the 7th Strategy Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region: “One Region, One Future – Vision 2030 for the Baltic Sea Region”, taking place from 8th to 9th November 2016. Sweden's decision to implement the EU Directive 2006/87/EC (a set of rules and regulations dictating technical and operational requirements for ships engaged in inland waterway traffic) into the Swedish legislation, provides new conditions for an increased utilisation of the Swedish inland waterways especially in Lake Vänern and Mälaren area.

The panel participants will discuss challenges and opportunities of the latest legislation focusing on inland navigation in Sweden, availability of infrastructure and European tonnage for the Swedish market as well as associations and organisations voice to strengthen the sector. Representatives from Swedish and German barge operators will discuss together with national politicians and European representatives on how to transfer the Swedish challenge into growth and future oriented transport opportunities for inland navigation:

  • What are the right European benchmarks to set-up reliable and economic inland navigation transport chains?
  • How can Swedish actors benefit of these experiences?
  • How can the Swedish example be an impulse for the Baltic Sea Region?

The results will be embeded into the discussion about fostering inland navigation in Europe and be an integral part of the Swedish inland waterway development as well as the project EMMA.

The Conference language will be English.

Registration: Please register for the 7th Strategy Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region event to attend our workshop session.
