The EMMA boat trip on the 13th September 2016 was to promote waterways in the region and to inform about the EMMA project. It took place on the motor ship “Uckermark” which cruised from Schwedt/Oder to Szczecin.
It was organised by the EMMA project partner Chamber of Commerce and Industry East Brandenburg.
The information meeting on board of the ship was opened by Stefan Zierke, Member of the German Bundestag and Head of the Working Group Oder as well as Grzegorz Załoga, President of Chamber’s Union Elbe/Oder.
Afterwards there was a short sightseeing tour through the port of Schwedt, which is a logistic location in the Oder region was presented by Peer Manthey, representative of the port authority Schwedt/Oder. During the visit local challenges and needs were presented towards the audience. These consist mainly of bottlenecks on waterways like low waters and too small locks. Most problematic is the “Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthaler Wasserstraße” which has been presented by Hans Bärthel (GDWS joined with Ralf Dimmeck (WSA Eberswalde).
The EMMA project, its aims and workpackages was presented by Beatrice Richter, Chamber of Commerce and Industry East Brandenburg.
Martin Bock von Agarvis und Dr. Felix Lösch of LEIPA Group, presented the importance of waterways for the economy in the region. Followed by a presentation from Mr. Dariusz Słaboszewski (President of the ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście), who sees high potential of both ports for the Baltic Sea region.
