The first promotional and research container cruise moved not only Vistula waters but also decision-makers.
Everybody speaks about the need of building cascade on the biggest Polish river.
The barge with containers overcame the distance 440 km from Gdansk to Warsaw within 9 days.
Along the way it visited the main ports and marinas where promotional events and press conferences were held. Moreover, during each cruise expert meetings and working groups were organized on-board, moderated very often by the Vistula River itself. Research concerning the river morphology, infrastructural and navigations objects were conducted by the students of Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz and specialists from the Regional Water Management Authority in Gdansk.
The cruise had the following purposes:
The main stop of the cruise was organized in Bydgoszcz, nearby the planned multimodal platform which would operate as crucial hinterland port, mainly for containers transport coming from the sea ports in Gdansk and Gdynia. For citizens and media the unique show of handling containers from one barge to another was prepared. On the following day the representatives of Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation, Port of Gdansk, regional and local
self-governments met on information seminar telling about the future of inland navigation in Poland. The citizens of Bydgoszcz had an opportunity to visit exhibition concerning the history inland water transport in the region and economic use of rivers.
The container barge was accompanied by another convoy transporting oversized cargo to Plock, so the transport potential of the Vistula was tested in actual operating conditions.
The promotional cruise was accomplished on 27th April in Warsaw by the Ministerial Working Group on IW Investments meeting.
